Needless to say I don't agree. Maybe Kirk over at Americans For Bosnia would like to wade into this when he us done with his academic work:

The Princess' Turbe

This image is one I have searched for for at least the last six years. It is the last resting place of Queen Katarina's daughter. It was in Skoplje, Makedonija.
The image here was taken before 1934. The turbe was largely destroyed by the 1963 earthquake.

Before that time people used to visit this grave. Little Katarina was maybe 10 when she died. By then she and her brother had become Muslim.
Little Katarina must have had a very good reputation for piety. Burial in a turbe is not for just anyone. It is a very special honor.

The turbe stood solid some 500 years. There are still remains of it.

I searched far and wide in CyberSpace for this image.

Zemelja Krvi I Meda:

BBC America showed a story of the premier of Jolie's film. Even with the huge amount of snow still on the ground, people turned out in great enough numbers for this film that the screening was moved to a stadium.

Bonus points... film of one of the older mosques in the Bjelava area, my old neighborhood. I nearly wept hearing the ambient sounds, the wind, traffic noises and the competing sounds of the Azan being called from the different mosques.

The snow was deep on all the streets, maybe two feet high on roofs.

Sniffy today:

It's nice out here but I am feeling snuffy and my ears itch as if a colony of ants were building a nest in them. I hate that sensation.

Here's Hague Tribunal updates:

And Bosnia is siding with Turkey and Saudi Arabia on the situation in Syria:

The Turks also don't want a buffer zone.

Artillery:

I was sleeping nicely until the live fire exercise woke me up. Woke up a lot of other people, and some of the dogs in our apartments.

I have an app which allows me to tune into the police and fire departments. Lots of people called about the noises. Someone put out the word to the police that indeed it was the Firing Center holding a live-fire exercise.

And now back to our regular programming :

This looks like a sort of Balkan 'Hogan's Heros' to me:

Cerić upsets a bunch of people:

http://www.adnkronos.com/IGN/Aki/English/Religion/Bosnia-Muslim-leader-causes-outrage-by-denying-war-crimes_312972594626.html

My take, yes there were atrocities committed by Muslims in the war. Just because by and large Muslims were victims of more atrocity does not mean any Muslims who committed atrocities should not face justice. In fact it is important that ALL war criminals be tried and punished because unpunished war crimes are the catalyst of future wars.

And Snowmageddon continues on:

Seven Years Online!

The earliest post of this blog was actually 9 February 2005. As far as this blog being decently organized, it took me until about the 20th to get it together. My esteemed readers have followed me to Bosnia and back, shared my academic and romantic woes. And I am still going, from a huge desk-top to a little iPod touch.

Other bloggers dedicated to this region have fallen by the wayside. I do need to get on a big box and take out the links of those blogs no longer functioning.

It's been fun. Gone this far, I guess I'll stick with it.

A worthwhile review of Jolie's film

Peter Lippmann has long been a true friend of Bosnia. I think what he has to say is worth taking into account.

More Machinations:

Not a good idea.

This is interesting food for thought. If it could be done without setting off another war, I think the time has come.
