More From Bosnian Genocide Blog:

I need to warn any sensitive readers that the images in this post I am
re-blogging are aweful. They are further images from the concentration
camps around Prijedor. Some of these images were taken by journalists,
still others were smuggled out by a doctor.

As with the Holocaust in NAZI Germany, we should never forget the
genocide on non-Serb Bosnians:

Comments:
Bosniak woman Aziza (not her real name) is a 29-year-old mother of 3 who was raped in front of her children by Serbian troops at Brcko. After repeatedly raping her in front of her children, Serbs then urinated in the children's mouths. During the entire month of December of 1992, the rapes continued and she was 2-months pregnant (at the time this picture was taken) and wants an abortion. Bosnian Muslim women were systematically raped during the Bosnian Genocide (1992-95). Photographer: Sophie Elbaz

This absolutely horrific account was covered in the post I reblogged here.

The systematic rape of Muslim women and girls, even in some cases of men and boys was intended to physically damage the women and girls in question as much as it was intended as humiliation. That the method chosen was gang rape reveals something interesting about the perpetrators.
Did you know that when men rape a woman in that way, these often are latent homosexuals?
I mean in addition to being violent criminals.

The physical damage done to women and girls is such that many can't have children after this. This is so especially if
the victim is young.
Many already pregnant women were raped too, leading to still-births and miscarriages.
The mental damage of rape never goes away. In this day and age a rape victim can also be left with HIV-AIDS.
I favor the death penalty for rapists. It is yet one more reason I wish the criminals who committed and ordered these crimes would have to suffer.
The Hague is a very soft place to be held. It us better than the average American housing project for senior citizens!
Why are they so afraid to go there?
None of those people will EVER suffer enough to make up for what they did to the Bosnian people.

In this case I think it's misleading to focus too much on the role of individuals in the rapes. Remember that this was not about sexual gratification or even domestic politics, it was a part of the military strategy intended to secure the ethnic cleansing of areas which Milosevic and Karadzic intended to be homegeneously Serb territory. It was criminal that the Prosecutor's Office at the ICTY never charged Milan Lukic in time after Bakira Hasecic lobbied so hard to have him charged with the Visegrad rapes.

The doctor you refer to was the very brave Dr Merdzanic who took his life in his hands when he asked Penny Marshall to smuggle the photos out of Trnopolje. The courage that took is one of the reasons I feel contempt for Noam Chomsky when he trashes and trivialises the evidence of Merdzanic's personal experience. Merdzanic also gave evidence of how rape was so prevalent at Trnopolje, because it was the camp where most of the women and girls from the Kozarac area were assembled prior to being deported.

I can't stand Noam Chomsky on any number of counts. His attitudes on the Bisnian War are only a part of why I can't stand him.
