Snow falling at night
I love photographing snowfall at night, the glitzy effect on the small screen of my camera is cool, the flash hitting the snow is cool, and sometimes wakes up birds, sorry birds. This snow was fairly heavy. You can get an idea of how fast snow is falling at night this way.

Very difficult to get snow well. I was trying to take a picture of the heavy snow on Easter Monday behind a flowering bush. I guess the depth of field you need to get an image that approximates to the visual experience is hard to achieve. I don't know how you do it with a digital camera (I don't really get how you do most things with a digital camera, too much reading menus rather than fiddling with hands).
Anyhow these ones of yours are quite evocative.

There is one HUGE plus to digital cameras, that there is no film to waste, so I feel totally free to make mistakes and try new stuff. All I did was lean out the window enough to aim after the overhang of the roof, point and shoot. The flash actually has a cool effect on the snow flakes falling at night, on the small screen they look like confetti, falling beads, glitter, the stuff used to make rain on-stage.
Very cool. I take a bunch of bad pictures for every good one, but unlike with film I feel o.k. since I haven't wasted any film.
