Coments on Doctor's Strike in Bulgaria

Massechusetts passes law that everyone has to buy health insurance. I think this is the wrong approach. The insurance companies still charge some pretty awful sums for health insurance. Many people still won't be able to afford anything adequate. So it is very unfair to ordinary people. I think that the state needs to step in and do someting similar to 'Basic health' and charge those whose incomes allow for that a little more maybe. Even that doesn't work as well as it might. The problem is with the industry itself.
I think one central place to handle health care financeign is better than what goes on now. 500 kinds of paperwork, and tremendous expense whether or not it is justified either by level of care, or other objective measures.
Immigration law continues to be a huge source of discord as well in the U.S.

Comments:
Yes, why not take up a governemental health plan then? This approack of passing a law that requires one to purchase something on the "free" market is strange.

Well it's done with car insurance and frankly the P&C insurance takes total advantage of the situation.
A guy in our Gulag has campaigned for decades for a 'pay at the pump' plan for car insurance. How it would work is part of your gas tax would pay for car insurance for everyone. I wish they 'd go that route. Maybe a tax for health insurance could be done as a 'sin tax' say the tax on 'unhealthy' items like cigarrettes, liquor, candy, and cosmetics could be put into a fund for health insurance.
So people who were doing unhealthy things would pay more generally.
It would hit poor people harder, but then again, poor people need access to health care more anyway so it's really pretty fair.

Yes, it´s true, I didnt think of car insurances. Still that is different, car insurances are mandatory so that if you wreck somebodies other car, that person would get paid from your insurance company.
There is a sin tax system in place here in Iceland, can´t say it has much effect on me when buying cigarettes (it should though). A better way in my view is to have yearly checks around the same time as you pay for the health insurance (if it isn´t state run and deducted from your paycheck like here). Those who did not have trace elements of nicotine, alcohol and/or drugs in their bloodstream should be eligable for lower premiums.
