A minor lynx dump for St. Stephen's Day:

Article on Holbrook:

Christmas Mass in Rome:

Two sue over Dayton discrimination against Roma and Jews.

http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2010/12/26/nb-03

This has been a concern for some time. Are not Roma and Jews a part of
Bosnian society? I personally met several Roma who were defenders of
Sarajevo. It is not fair they cannot take part in governing their
counttry!

SRAMOTA!!!

I guess this was inevitable:

And neither is covering it up. Orthodox priests are allowed to marry.

Wahabbis Indicted.

This article names names. Half the men are pretty young and the other
half are old enough to know better.

Virtual Siege Museum Opens

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/sarajevo-siege-virtual-museum-launched-in-bosnia-2164227.html

I went to the Historical Museum in Sarajevo and saw something of what
people did to survive the Siege of Sarajevo. I hope this museum will
educate people.

In other news, Algeria wants Bosnian firms to do road building and
etc. I think that will be good for Bosnia,as these workers will be
able to send home money and help their families.

Back in the old Yugoslav days many Bosnian men worked in Algeria.

Richard Holbrook died.

We had some real snow here in the Yakima Gulag. It's caused a lot of
accidents. Right now though, it's very pretty and peaceful. Nobody is
out running their loud music in their cars. I'm pretty sure no one is
out tagging the buildings nearby. I hope all the little birds have
found someplace safe to hide out. I hope the homeless of our valley
have gotten into shelters, because it's going to be a cold night.

I don't know why this site is being so all fired cranky today. I loved this series and finally quite a lot is available on YouTube. I have to say getting to see it again is to fall in love with it all over again. The series was begun during my year in Sarajevo. I really think it was beautifully filmed and there are a lot of places familSaraiar to me by sight, or even because I hung out in some of those places at some point. If you can not understand Bosnian, just watch it for the intimate view it gives of Sarajevo. And return of Ranko1 :)

I hope that this time the link will work.

Pečat

So I have tried to get a link to my favorite Bosnian series 'Pečat' up
and it keeps not wanting to work.... Grrrrrr.

It's up on YouTube and I will just have to get the big box out and do
an embedded link.

Being lazy and sending it in as a mobile post simply won't work
evidently.

It really was a well filmed series and I really miss it. So I really
was delighted to find it.

Cold and Colder

I have been fairly busy. It almost seems that keeping up with Balkans
news headline by headline us too much. We have been cold in the Yakima
Gulag, but bosnia and Hercegovina have had both floods and snow in
epic amounts. Croatia has had floods. Mrs. Mladić was in court on some
gun related charges.
The Mladić family has been trying to have him declared dead.
I have no idea. My speculatipns about the where-abouts of Karadžic
were mostly off base. My crystal ball sucks!
I need a new one. Must've been that last power surge.

I think the guy is still alive, albeit in bad health. I think his wife
might even know where he is. Then again, maybe he has set up a whole
other life.

Angela Jolie really has disappointed me with her movie project. I
think at best it is in poor taste. This is ground where a foreigner to
the region ought to tread lightly. She's going to film in Hungary. I
suppose people who don't know any better will think the whole thing is
just wonderful. It isn't. Angelina should know better. She doesn't.
